The QoolQit Contest is live

Put QoolQit to work‚ and share what you build.

To celebrate the launch of QoolQit, Pasqal invites developers, researchers, students, and quantum practitioners to take part in the QoolQit Contest.

Explore Pasqal’s new open-source, hardware-agnostic Python library for analog quantum programming. Build a project and then submit it for a chance to win QPU credits.

What is QoolQit?

QoolQit is a Python SDK for designing and compiling analog quantum programs for neutral-atom devices in the Rydberg Analog Model.

It enables users to design programs in a dimensionless framework, separating the quantum program from the hardware-specific parameters used to implement it. This lets users focus on the problem and algorithmic ideas first, while retaining a path to hardware-compatible compilation and execution.

Topics and evaluation criteria

Participants may choose their own topic, provided that the work uses QoolQit meaningfully. The Pasqal team will evaluate notebooks that perform well in at least one of the following areas:

Reproduce research papers

Use QoolQit to reproduce, investigate, or adapt the results of a research paper. This may include recreating an existing method, studying a published result in a new way, comparing approaches, or adapting a research idea to a neutral-atom quantum-programming workflow.

Explore industrial use cases:

Use QoolQit to explore a use case with promising industrial relevance. This could include work related to optimization, materials, logistics, energy, finance, machine learning, or another application area where analog quantum computing may offer valuable insights.

Extend the QoolQit code base:

Create an original contribution that expands the QoolQit code base or its potential applications. Examples may include embedding methods, new quantum routines, reusable functions, workflows, tools, or other useful capabilities built with QoolQit.

How to participate

Participation is open to individuals and groups.

  1. Choose a topic. Select a research paper to reproduce, an industrially relevant use case to explore, or an original contribution that extends the QoolQit code base.
  2. Build with QoolQit. Develop a runnable notebook that demonstrates your approach, clearly documents your work, and explicitly states the QoolQit version used.
  3. Explain your work. Prepare a concise two-slide presentation that describes what you did, why it matters, the results obtained, and your experience using QoolQit.
  4. Submit by email. Send your notebook and presentation as described in the Submission format to qoolqit.contest@pasqal.com by Friday, 16 October at 23:59 CEST.
  5. Wait for the review. The Pasqal internal team will review all complete submissions after the deadline. Selected notebooks will receive Pasqal compute hours, including emulation and QPU access. Winners will be announced publicly.

Prizes

Participants whose submissions stand out for their quality will receive Pasqal compute hours, providing access to both emulation resources and Pasqal’s neutral-atom quantum hardware.

QPU access


Selected participants will also receive access to run their work on Pasqal’s neutral-atom Quantum Processing Unit (QPU).

A QPU run enables participants to move beyond simulation and execute a quantum program on real hardware, where neutral atoms are trapped in optical tweezers and controlled with laser pulses. This is an opportunity to take a QoolQit workflow from program design and compilation through to execution on a Pasqal quantum processor.

Submission format

To enter the QoolQit Contest, each individual or group must send the following materials to qoolqit.contest@pasqal.com by Friday, 16 October at 23:59 CEST:

  • One runnable QoolQit notebook. The notebook must explicitly state the version of QoolQit used.
  • One two-slide presentation, in PDF or PowerPoint format:
    • Slide 1 — Project overview: Describe the problem addressed, the approach taken, and the results obtained. Explain what was done and why it is important.
    • Slide 2 — Experience with QoolQit: Describe the main positive aspects and challenges encountered while using QoolQit.

Ownership of submissions

Participants retain ownership of the materials they submit to the QoolQit Challenge, including code, documentation, and project materials.

Pasqal will not use, reproduce, publish, share, modify, or feature a submission outside the administration and evaluation of the Challenge without first obtaining the participant’s prior consent.

Following the completion of the Challenge, Pasqal will delete submitted materials and will not retain copies of them.
