Pasqal and Riverlane Join Forces to Achieve Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing The pioneering collaboration bridges the gap between quantum potential and practical real-world applications

Paris, France & London, United Kingdom – December 10, 2024Pasqal, a global leader in neutral atom quantum computing, has today announced an ambitious partnership with Riverlane, a frontrunner in quantum error correction (QEC) technology, to accelerate the race towards fault-tolerant quantum computing – a critical milestone, where errors are corrected in real time, for unleashing the full potential of quantum computing.

The collaboration will combine Pasqal’s neutral atom technology with Riverlane’s quantum error correction (QEC) stack Deltaflow™, the first of its kind. Together, these capabilities promise to resolve the persistent reliability challenge of quantum computers, which struggle to consistently perform the millions of error-free calculations required for practical applications.

Comprised of a set of interconnected technologies, Deltaflow™  is designed to detect and correct errors – a fundamental obstacle in today’s noisy small-scale quantum systems. Integrating Riverlane’s innovative QEC stack with Pasqal’s neutral-atom technology, ideal for its high connectivity and inherent stability, will help Pasqal in achieving early fault-tolerant quantum computers, capable of consistent, high-performance computation, as part of its strategic roadmap.

The implications of fault-tolerant quantum computing are vast. For example, Pasqal is already exploring how its technology could revolutionize the discovery of organic materials for more efficient batteries—an essential innovation for the transition to sustainable energy. Through the enhanced precision and scalability enabled by fault-tolerant quantum computers, the two companies will drive innovation in many other fields, such as pharmaceuticals, materials science, and artificial intelligence, delivering solutions that will solve real-world challenges.

Furthermore, Pasqal and Riverlane will identify and pursue new commercial and R&D opportunities with their combined expertise in quantum computing. This includes co-developing marketing and business initiatives to advance the collaboration and identify potential sources of public and government funding.

“Fault tolerance is the cornerstone of quantum computing’s future,” said Loïc Henriet, Co-CEO of Pasqal. “While Pasqal’s neutral atom technology offers a uniquely scalable and stable platform, Riverlane’s state-of-the-art error correction expertise addresses the final bottlenecks to large-scale deployment. Accelerating the timeline to scalable, reliable quantum systems, this partnership takes us closer to delivering game-changing solutions in fields like finance, energy, and healthcare, pushing the boundaries of what quantum computing can achieve”.

“At Riverlane, we believe that quantum error correction is the key to unlocking the full transformative power of quantum computing. By integrating our cutting-edge quantum error correction stack with Pasqal’s advanced neutral atom platform, we directly tackle the critical challenge of achieving fault tolerance. This partnership underscores the importance of collaboration in building reliable large-scale, quantum computers that will redefine industries and tackle humanity’s most pressing challenges.” said Steve Brierley, CEO & Founder of Riverlane.

About Riverlane

Riverlane’s mission is to make quantum computing useful, sooner. This will transform the future of computing and start an era of human progress as significant as the digital and industrial revolutions. Achieving this requires a 10,000x reduction in the system errors that quickly overwhelm all quantum computers, today. Riverlane is building Deltaflow, the quantum error correction (QEC) stack, to solve this problem across all qubit types. Having assembled the world’s leading experts in quantum error correction and chip design, Riverlane is now supplying over half of the world’s quantum computing companies. At Deltaflow’s core is the world’s most powerful quantum error decoder. Deltaflow is powered by a new class of patented QEC semiconductors designed and built by Riverlane.
