For a car driving on the highway, aerodynamic drag accounts for ~50% of the fuel consumption. This makes aerodynamics a critical design component of any new car. Accurate numerical simulation of aerodynamics can reduce the need for physical (wind tunnel) testing thereby reducing vehicle development costs and time to market.
Aerodynamics simulations involve solving the notoriously difficult Navier-Stokes differential equations. Regretfully, today it is more feasible to experimentally test a model in a wind tunnel, than to solve these equations in full generality.
PASQAL’s research in this field is supported by €10M funding from the European Innovation Council. PASQAL’s unique and proprietary solvers for differential equations promise a more accurate and efficient solution and implemented on our quantum processors these methods promise quantum advantage in the very near-term.
